SHALOM
Stay Home And Live Our Mission

The word SHALOM is Hebrew. It means hello, good-bye, and love. It is a great word for our week-long adventure of meeting people in our community and sharing Jesus' love with them.

In 2006, Champlin United Methodist Church was in Mission in our community during the week of June 12th.

Many exciting day and evening projects were planned, including indoor and outdoor home improvements, yard work, washing cars, entertaining and socializing at the Anoka Care Center, and park clean-up plus some odd jobs around our church.

Other ways Champlin UMC is involved in mission throughout the year include:

Local

School Shelf Supply: At back to school time, school supplies are collected and donated to Champlin Elementary School

Meals on Wheels: Decades ago, a pastor at Champlin UMC organized churches in Anoka and Champlin to provide Meals on Wheels to the area. Today volunteers from Champlin UMC take their turn every six weeks delivering 75 meals a day for a week.

CROSS & Souper Sunday: Champlin UMC is a continuous drop off site for contributions to CROSS food shelf. On Super Bowl Sunday, we do a special "souper" drive for donations of soup.

Warm Clothes: Each fall, Champlin UMC collects gently used winter items for adults and children. They are distributed through Oxbow Elementary School and other churches. In mid-winter, hats and mittens are purchased to fill other unmet needs.

Regional/State

Simpson Shelter Meals: Several times a year, small groups and families prepare and serve the residents of the Simpson UMC Shelter in Minneapolis. Many years ago, Champlin UMC began the tradition of providing hot meals instead of cold sandwiches. Now groups from across the metro area provide a hot dinner 365 nights a year.

Sock it to Simpson: From time to time, special drives are done to help meet urgent needs of Simpson Shelter residents, such as socks. Through the year, hygiene items are also collected, like shampoo and soap.

Bell Ringing: In December, members of the congregation ring the bell at Salvation Army kettles in Champlin. Donations to those kettles serve Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Osseo, Rogers, Dayton, Champlin, and Maple Grove.

Missionaries: Champlin UMC has provided support for missionaries around the world and an urban missionary here in the inner city.

National/World

Operation Christmas Child: Shoeboxes of gifts are filled for children around the world.

Lenten Project - UMCOR kits: Hygiene kits are made-up, and sent to developing & disaster areas. UMCOR is the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Bishop's Challenge: A project challenge to multiply a donation to fund a mission chosen annually by the bishop.

Sunday School Mission Project: Sunday School sponsors projects such as providing an animal to provide sustainable income through Heifer International.

Trick or Treat for UNICEF: Children in the congregation are encouraged to carry UNICEF collection boxes when Trick or Treating at Halloween time.
