Prayer Partners Needed!

Do you believe in the power of prayer?  Do you care about the children at CUMC?  If so, you can be a prayer partner for a Sunday school student this school year.  Find out more information, sign up, and fill out an information sheet-all on the Know and Grow Tree.

Liturgical Movement

Are you a hidden, yet aspiring dancer who is an adult or a Seeker age person?  Here’s how to bring the spirit out in a new worship ministry….LITURGICAL MOVEMENT.  Rehearsals will be 15 minutes on Wednesday’s starting October 3rd at about 7:15 for 4 times.  While Devotion sings, you’ll express the words and the mood in movement.  This ministry will be a part of worship on November 4th for our All Saints Sunday.  For more details see Kay Roberts.

Unpacking Your Family Baggage Seminar

How Past Family Dynamics Affect Your Current Relationships

Held Mondays Sept. 17 – Nov. 5, 7-8:15 p.m.  Nursery and child care are available.  This seminar open to everyone will be led by Doyle Johnson, a counselor at Champlin Park HS. Topics will include: communication patterns, boundaries, generational growth and development, insight into current relationship patterns, understanding your partner’s emotional system.  All of this will be presented from a Christian perspective.  The seminars are not therapy sessions, but the same information from a family counselor would cost you about $150 and hour. You won’t be asked to share personal information with anyone at the seminar, but it will encourage looking inward at our patterns of behavior.  The seminar is open to the community- so tell your friends and neighbors.

A brochure with more details is available in the narthex. Cost: $45 per couple. Free will offering for nursery and child care and will go to the youth programs at CUMC.

Sunday October 28th –  All Church Fall Party & Potluck

Be a part of this fun inter-generational event.  Bring a tasty side dish or dessert and the United Methodist Women will provide the Sloppy Joes for the Fall/Halloween themed potluck following the worship service. There will be games and activities for all ages.  After worship children are invited to put on their non-scary & church appropriate costumes for the party.  Adults are encouraged to bring loose change for the children’s UNICEF boxes.  If you would like to help with this event please contact Pastor Joyce 421-7047, or sign up on the Know and Grow Tree.

Trick or Treat for UNICEF

The children will once again be receiving UNICEF boxes to take with them when they go trick or treating to collect funds for children in need.  The boxes will be distributed on Sunday Oct 28th during the children’s message time and children will be encouraged to trick or treat for UNICEF among the church members during the CUMC Fall Party and on Halloween. Since 1950 the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has been helping children in over 158 countries have safe drinking water, medicine and shots to protect them from sickness, school supplies so they can go to school and enough food so they can grow up strong and healthy.  Please have your child bring their filled boxes on November 4th to place at the base of the altar during the children’s message time.

Church Conference – Sunday November 4th

Our District Superintendent, Rev. Liz Lopez will lead us in our All Saints Day worship at 10 am. We’ll share in a potluck meal following church and the annual Church Conference meeting will commence at 12 pm.  At Church Conference, reports are presented about the past year of ministry, the pastor’s salary package is presented by SPRC and voted upon, and we will engage in conversation with one another and the District Superintendent about the ministries at Champlin UMC.  Reserve the date on your calendar to be sure you’ll be present with us for this important meeting.

Collecting/Recycling Pill Bottles

Faith Circle is collecting empty pill bottles to send to Africa.  They must be clean inside and out and labels and stickiness removed.  Don't forget the caps.  They will be used to dispense medicine.  A collection bucket is on the table in the Narthex.

Skip a Lunch, Save Four Lives

Bishop Janice Riggle Huie, president of the UM Council of Bishops, invites UMs to join her in skipping lunch on Africa Malaria Day, April 25, and use their lunch money to buy a lifesaving bed net. "Malaria kills a child every 30 seconds in Africa," Bishop Huie said. "Bed nets are the most cost-effective way to protect children from the mosquitoes who carry this killer disease."

The people of The United Methodist Church are a founding partner in the Nothing But Nets campaign. Bishop Huie will use $10 saved by skipping lunch to buy a $10 bed net through Nothing But Nets. The insecticide-treated nets can cover a family of four and protect them from malaria-bearing mosquitoes. About $7 pays for a net and $3 helps defray the cost of distribution and educating people on how to use the nets effectively. A challenge grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match contributions dollar for dollar up to $3 million.

Put the $10 you save by skipping a lunch or two in your church's offering plate and writing "Nothing But Nets" on the memo line. The Advance number is 982015.  Check out NothingButNets.net for more information.
